Work

Co-founder and managing director of Aperial Corp. At Aperial, we're focused on delivering open source social media applications for healthcare organizations. Over the last three years, I've worked on designing and implementing complex interactive patient education and entertainment television networks at leading healthcare providers including St. Joseph Hospital of Orange (CA), Levine Children's Hospital (NC), Walter Reed Army Medical Center (MD/DC) and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital (MI). Among my favorite work related activities are leading consensus-driven, cross-departmental team efforts to establish product requirements, set non-clinical target outcomes for patients and develop user interface elements.

Wide range of product marketing experience covering semiconductor, embedded devices (set-top boxes, TVs), computer hardware, firmware, software and digital content/media. Able to take varied criteria or data points and quickly return actionable options/summaries for team or executive decision making. Comfortable discussing spreadsheets, social networks or hosting social events, working in basement IT rooms or presenting in boardrooms, leading teams or acting as a sole contributor.

Extensive customer and client relationship building in North America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe around complex software products with long lead marketing cycles and multiple vendor dependencies. Past technology customers have included Thomson (RCA), Philips, Acer, ST Microelectronics, National Semiconductor, General Instruments (Motorola), Scientific Atlanta (Cisco), Pace, AOLTV and various satellite, terrestrial and cable television operators around the globe. Author of numerous business, marketing and sales plans. Designer of direct marketing campaigns using traditional (print, broadcast, online) and new (social) media

 

Current Focus/Outlook

Focused on developing patient-centric direct marketing networks for healthcare providers, payers and agencies that create lasting 1:1 relationships between patients and healthcare brands. Proponent of EHR/PHR adoption where coupled with a balanced emphasis between provider/payer adoption and patient access/use. Realist about the likely pace of change in most healthcare environments. Strong believer in using prediction markets ("wisdom of crowds") and real-time perception polling to make social networks a solid contributor to healthcare enterprise goals and objectives around utilization, pay-mix and forecasting.

 

Geekiness

Mostly a Mac user (MacBook Pro, Powerbook, iPod Touch) that relies primarily on web-based applications, storage, syncing and services. Prefer the Blackberry to the iPhone for email. Use a netbook that runs Windows XP for most travel/out of office activities. Nominal Linux/Ubuntu skills. Early Kindle eBook adopter. Fan of Drupal for online content management and Amazon Web Services for hosting. Still own/wear suits/ties as required. Walking, yoga (hatha/bikram) and sailing. I type faster than I talk and sometimes type faster than I think, unfortunately.
